What is duricef and what is cefadroxil?

Duricef drug is a brand of prescription medication which is in the group of cephalosporin antibiotics. It also has generic version with name Cefadroxil monohydrate. Duricef or generic duricef helps in treating nasal, throat, urinary track as well as skin infections. Strep, E Coli etc. are some specific kinds of bacteria which are killed by using duricef dosage.

Important Information about duricef antibiotic

If you are allergic to the medications that fall in this group of antibiotics then you should avoid taking it. But when there is an emergency and you have to take it then consult your doctor first before taking duricef. If by any chance you have taken the drug and faced some sort of reaction then call for doctor’s attention.

This is a prescription medication and should be bought only with doctor’s prescription.

It is important to note that this is an antibiotic and it does not treat flu as caused by viral infections.

It is still not known whether duricef can affect mothers who are pregnant in any way. But it’s better to consult the doctor before taking this medication.

It is also not known that whether nursing mothers are negatively affected with this dose. But it would be better to get medical guidance in this regards.

Normally, antibiotic treatment can cause abdominal discomforts. You can report to the doctor. Do not use any other over the counter medication for treatment of this condition.

Directions of using cefadroxil monohydrate and duricef

You should take duricef or generic duricef as per the prescribed dosage. This is because if you take overdose then there can be complications. You should complete the course of medication as your doctor has recommended so that you can get completely fine.

You can take cefadroxil for your problem with or without food.

If you are using capsules then you should store them at normal room temperature.

If you are using liquid suspension cefadroxil then in that case, you should shake the bottle well while using and store it in cool place like refrigerator.

If you miss the dosage of cefadroxil 500 then go through the leaflet of the medication to get access to the instructions. You may even talk to your doctor about this.

Probable duricef side effects

If you are planning to take branded duracef or generic one, you should be aware of cefadroxil side effects. Skin rashes, itching, redness, abdominal discomfort, nausea etc. are some of the side effects of cefadroxil and duricef. If apart from these common side effects if you notice something uncommon then you should consult your doctor immediately.

Duricef drug interactions

Studies are still going on in the area to find out the drug interactions of duricef with other drugs. Till now, nothing has been proved clinically in this regards. However, it is vital to tell your physician about the medications that you are already taking due to presence of some health condition. What other drugs will affect cefadroxil ?

Before taking cefadroxil, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines
probenecid (Benemid);
a loop diuretic (water pill) such as furosemide, bumetanide (Bumex), torsemide (Demadex), or ethacrynic acid (Edecrin);
warfarin (Coumadin); or
another antibiotic.
You may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you are taking any of the medicines listed above.
Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with cefadroxil. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.

Possible side effects of cefadroxil

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking cefadroxil and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; hives; or a rash);

  • rash, redness, or itching;
  • severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
  • mucous or blood in the stool; or
  • unusual bleeding or bruising.

Other, less serious side effects may also occur. Continue to take the medication and talk to your doctor if you experience

  • mild nausea or diarrhea, or
  • yeast infection of the mouth or vagina.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
